Rapier
Multirole starfighter produced by the Kuat Consortium, dubbed the "vanilla ice cream cone" of starfighters, and criticized (and praised) for being "remarkable for being unremarkable."
The Rapier's primary armament of twin 30 mm autocannon is a little underpowered by starfighter standards, but the large missile bays make up for it, giving the fighter an overall average armament. Maneuverability is average in space but poor in an atmosphere. Armor and survivability are average. (Sensing a theme here?)
The Rapier, however, fills a valuable niche: it is an affordable option for planetary patrols, militias, and even private citizens who want some space fighting capability without breaking the bank. Kuat noted that most possible consumers for a high-performance starfighter (GSF, SRAN, SAGA, etc.) tended to design their own, and saw a potential market for a more economical fighter.
The Republic Aerospace Fleets uses a number of Rapiers, partly because the RAF prioritizes capital ships over starfighter development. Most pilot prefer the Scimitar, which at least has some personality.
