Setzer Gabbiani
The famed eccentric billionaire gambler, adventurer, and casino tycoon, Setzer was one of the legendary Fourteen Against Kefka, who fought and defeated Kefka Palazzo in 1 WR.
During the Great War, he allied himself with the fledgling Grand Army adventuring with the likes of Celiose Cole, Tahran, and Chrystalis, but has largely dropped out of the world-saving business in favor of high stakes gambling and business ventures. In the years since, he's used his considerable wealth and connections to build Gabbiani Enterprises, a billion-dollar casino empire with luxury five-star resorts across the Web, as well as a world class fleet of state-of-the-art casino ships, air and sea.
Setzer never lost his love of flying, and maintains what is widely believed to be the largest private airship fleet in the Web. He's also a noted philanthropist, and his charity work includes founding the Daryl Memorial Grand Prix, an annual sky racing tournament that's raised millions of GP over its eleven-year history for Tuvin's Syndrome research, a cause dear to him ever since his old friend Celes Cole was diagnosed with it. He's also won it eight times. On a more personal note, there's been a quiet rumor that Setzer's been secretly supporting another old friend, the exiled former King of Figaro, since he's fallen on hard times. Setzer vehemently denies it, but for several years, secret Gabbiani Enterprise records have shown a number of contracts with an R&D "consultant" named Gerad Ragofi.
Gambling is still Setzer's first love after flying, however. After he won it a record-setting ten times in a row, Setzer retired from the famed Web Series of Poker Tournament citing boredom and a lack of challenging opponents. Following his retirement, the tournament instituted a new rule that a reigning Grand Champion could only defend his/her title a total of three consecutive times. Setzer remains the most feared high stakes gambler on the circuit, and has reportedly retired from several other, more discreet tournaments undefeated.
Unfortunately, despite all his success in the world of business and high stakes gaming, Setzer's luck hasn't translated that well to his personal life. Known as one of the Web's most eligible (and some say eternal) bachelors still at his age, nearing 50, Setzer's been a favorite subject of the tabloids and gossip shows for years as a result of his jet setting lifestyle. Despite a series of high profile affairs with various starlets, pop singers and other female entertainers, he doesn't even have a failed marriage to his name, and occasional rumors of homosexuality have dogged him for years, though doesn't seem to take them seriously and refuses to comment on them. His last known serious romance was with the famed Elven soprano, Arielle Lysandir, though it ended rather abruptly with her sudden marriage to a decorated GA officer. Arielle's tragic death some years ago in an auto accident devastated Setzer, and he's not had a stable relationship since then.
