Harpy

A race of winged creatures native to the Alter Dimension. They are found both on Alter-Dragon and on Alter-Mana, and appear as humans with with wings and talons in place of human arms and legs. A disproportionately large number of Harpies are females; this has lead to the historic misconception that the entire race is female (which is not the case).

On Alter-Dragon, they are found in loosely-organized tribal villages throughout the mountainous regions north of Windia, and also in the mountains south of Drogen. In Windia, some tribes of Harpies are allied with the Krydions, while others are not. Most Harpy tribes have subsisted for years as commerce raiders, but with the rise of the Alter-Dragonian Combine several tribes on the mainland have been coerced into cooperation with the Combine government.

On Alter-Mana, Harpies are native to the mountainous home province of Laurent, where they are generally regarded as a nuissance in the Amazon Kingdom. A significant population exists on the island of Bucca, having fled persecution by the Laurentians over the course of several generations.

Harpies are renowned for their enchanting singing voices. Most Harpies are capable of creating magical effects naturally through song, and are sometimes formally trained in Bardic Spellsinging.
