Drow Pantheon

Sindrai'el, the Goddess of Spiders, Lust, Chaos and Murder, is the tyrannical head of the Drow Pantheon and is powerful, conniving, and deeply insane. She was once a part of the Elven pantheon but was cast out for her treachery, and in retaliation seduced the Dark Elves to lives of evil and depravity, which caused them to be banished into the Underground (the Drow obviously tell this differently).

The rest of the pantheon consists of Sindrai'el's children: Vhaeraun, the God of Stealth and Thievery, and patron of Drow males; Kiaransalee, Goddess of the Undead and Necromancy; Selvetarm, Champion of Sindrai'el, God of War and patron of Drow fighters; and the Dark Maiden Eilistraee, the lone goodly member of the pantheon, and Goddess of Moonlight, Song, Dance and Swordplay. They all loathe each other, and with the exception of Selvetarm despise their mother. However, all accept Sindrai'el as head of the pantheon, except Vhaeraun and Eilistraee, who openly oppose her. Vhaeraun and Eilistraee both espouse equality and urge the Drow to return to Crystal's surface, but for very different reasons. Vhaeraun believes the Drow need to end their self-destructive squabbling and set their sights on the vast lands of the surface, where the real power in Crystal lies. In particular, Vhaeraun rejects the tyranny of Drow females and his followers are engaged in continual guerilla warfare against the Ara'yathrin. Eilistraee, on the other hand, advocates reconciliation between Drow and Elves, and a return to a more benevolent way of life. Her small but growing number of followers reject the cruelty and evil of their race and are mostly found on the surface, where they work towards healing the rift in the Elven race.

Scholars remain divided over just why Sindrai'el and the rest of the Drow gods managed to stay out of the Great War, neither throwing their lot in with the Dark Wrath, nor openly opposing the Light Gods on their own. Perhaps the truth lies in the Drow superiority complex, and they thought themselves above the petty squabbles of other Gods (while, of course, continuing their own petty squabbles). Perhaps Sindrai'el thought to let the Web Pantheon destroy itself and then sweep in and take over. She may even have felt the whole affair boring and lacking in class.
